Warning
Nightly releases are generated automatically from the latest source code and are intended for experimental purposes only. These builds may contain incomplete or untested features, bugs, or security vulnerabilities, and as such, are not for production use. Inventor¶
The Inventor file type refers to files created by Autodesk Inventor, a 3D CAD software widely used for mechanical design, product modeling, and simulation. These files are native to Inventor and include rich information about parts, assemblies, and drawings.
Extensions¶
Supported:
.ipt (Part files)
Used for creating individual parts
Parametric modeling: Modify size and shape using constraints and dimensions
Single-body parts fit into assemblies; multi-body parts can be split
.iam (Assembly files)
Combine parts & sub-assemblies with joints and constraints
Create assembly-level features (e.g., holes)
Manage components and visibility via the assembly browser
Not supported:
ipn (Presentation files)
Used for creating exploded views of assemblies for drawings
Show assembly order step-by-step including view changes
.dwg & .idw (Drawing files)
Document models with views, dimensions, and annotations
Supports parts lists and item balloons for assemblies
Drawings update automatically with component changes
