3DSpaces

A 3DSpace is a shared, stateful workspace in instant3Dhub for exploring, reviewing, and discussing 3D engineering data directly against the original source.

Content in a 3DSpace

A 3DSpace combines:

3D Data Resources: File Resources typically from external systems (CAD, PLM) referenced via URNs, not modified in the 3DSpace.

3DSpace Entities: Authored content within the 3DSpace that layers on top of the referenced 3D data resources:

  • Snapshots capture the state of the 3DSpace at a moment in time, including references and entities, for later review or presentation.

  • Markups are annotations (e.g. comments, highlights) attached to specific locations

  • Measurements capture dimensions and distances between points, edges, or faces in the 3D space.

  • Clipplanes are dynamic cutting planes that can be positioned and oriented to inspect internal features

  • Members represent participants in the 3DSpace, each with a unique identifier, display name, and optional avatar.

Collaboration in 3DSpaces

Multiple participants can collaborate in real-time, sharing a consistent view of both referenced 3D data resources and 3DSpace Entities. Members can join or leave, observe changes made by others, and optionally follow another member’s point of view for presentation scenarios.

All changes on 3DSpace Entities — are visible to all members immediately and persisted by default.

Example Use Cases

  • Engineering Reviews: Designers share a prepared 3DSpace with engineers for feedback and issue tracking.

  • Ramp-Up & Manufacturing Planning: Teams review assemblies with operators to optimize manufacturing processes.

  • Sales & Presentations: Product variants are presented and configured in a shared 3D environment.
